Krusinski Construction Company has completed an expansion at Santa Monica Seafood’s Rancho Dominguez facility, adding specialised refrigerated space and reconfiguring warehouse operations to support the distributor’s growing business. The improvements increase the facility’s capacity for seafood packaging, storage and distribution while allowing existing operations to continue during construction.
The 13,000-square-foot interior renovation included changes to 9,000 square feet of existing warehouse space for packaging, box-making, storage and distribution activities. The project also added a 4,000-square-foot cooler maintained at 35 degrees Fahrenheit to accommodate packaging lines, ambient rooms and specialised refrigeration equipment.
Additional work included insulated metal panel walls and ceilings, refrigeration infrastructure, HVAC modifications and electrical upgrades. The fire protection system and sprinklers were also redesigned to accommodate the updated facility layout.
The improvements address the infrastructure requirements of seafood processing and distribution, where temperature control, equipment integration and reliable utility services are essential to daily operations.
Krusinski delivered the renovation while Santa Monica Seafood continued operating at the site. The project required coordination of construction activities with the facility’s ongoing packaging, processing and distribution functions.
Electrical power, water services and specialised food-processing equipment requirements also had to be incorporated into the upgraded space. Managing these elements within an active facility required coordination across construction, mechanical, electrical and fire protection work.
The project team included Senior Project Manager Greg Krucek, Project Engineer Gama Cruz, Project Superintendent Michael Adebayo and Project Coordinator Angie Mojica. Design Group Facility Solutions served as the project architect and structural engineer.
For food distributors, additional temperature-controlled space and more efficient warehouse layouts can help accommodate higher throughput and specialised handling requirements. The Rancho Dominguez project gives Santa Monica Seafood upgraded infrastructure for packaging and storage as it serves customers across a nationwide distribution network.
The completion also extends Krusinski’s relationship with Santa Monica Seafood to four projects. For contractors working in food and beverage facilities, the project demonstrates the coordination required to modernise specialised industrial spaces without interrupting essential operations.
