Leadership Transition Follows Succession Planning

Langan has appointed Ryan C. Linthicum as its next chief executive officer, with the leadership transition scheduled for January 1, 2027, following a two-year succession planning process.

David T. Gockel, the company’s current CEO, will continue serving as executive chair of Langan’s Board of Managers. The transition is intended to maintain leadership continuity as the firm advances its engineering and environmental consulting services across domestic and international markets.

Linthicum will become the third CEO in the company’s history. He has spent his entire 30-year career at Langan, progressing from staff engineer at the firm’s New Jersey headquarters to managing principal and member of its Executive Committee and Board of Managers.

Technology and Federal Projects Shape Leadership Experience

Linthicum oversees Langan’s technology strategy, including investments in artificial intelligence and the integration of AI into the firm’s services. He also leads its nationwide digital solutions practice.

During his career, Linthicum opened three offices in Washington, D.C., Arlington and Richmond, Virginia, and led the firm’s expansion into the federal market. Langan has supported the development or redevelopment design process for nearly 200 U.S. embassies and consulates through work associated with the State Department’s Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations.

His project experience spans mixed-use developments, commercial properties, resorts, cultural facilities, sports venues, education, life sciences and aviation.

Founded in 1970, Langan provides engineering and environmental consulting services and reports a workforce of 2,500 professionals across 60 U.S. offices, with additional international operations. The leadership change comes as the firm continues investing in technology, digital services and its broad project portfolio.
