The inspection carried out by the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) and the 9 Brigade Command in Maryland, Ikeja, is part of an ongoing effort to foster urban regeneration in Lagos State. The inspection aimed not only to review the progress of construction within the Brigade Command Headquarters but also to discuss strategic ways to address common challenges in urban development, particularly in restricted areas like military barracks.

During the inspection, LASBCA General Manager Gbolahan Oki reaffirmed the agency's commitment to ensuring that all construction projects comply with state regulations. He also emphasized the importance of building safe, high-quality structures in accordance with the government's T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Development Agenda, which prioritizes sustainable development, infrastructure improvement, and safety. Oki’s remarks highlight the government’s approach of implementing development policies that do not exclude any area, even those that have previously been outside the scope of such regulations.

The General Manager praised the collaboration between LASBCA and the 9 Brigade, recognizing the essential role of joint efforts in achieving the shared goals of urban regeneration. He noted that the project’s success hinges on the continued partnership between the Lagos State Government and key institutions like the military and federal agencies. "Working together, we can ensure that Lagos continues to grow as a safe, sustainable, and modern metropolis," Oki stated.

Brigadier General Matthew Oyekola, the General Officer Commanding of the 9 Brigade, responded positively, acknowledging the importance of urban regeneration in enhancing the living conditions within the Brigade Command. He also highlighted that the collaboration would help address some of the challenges facing the military base, including the traffic congestion around the security checkpoints.

Oyekola’s appreciation of the ongoing cooperation is evident as he expressed his support for LASBCA’s efforts. He not only thanked Oki for his hard work but also presented him with a commendation letter from a retired General, further cementing the relationship between the military and the state agency. The gesture was an acknowledgment of the General Manager’s dedication to his work and his ability to address issues faced by both the military and civilian sectors.

The visit also included a discussion on the issuance of Certificates of Completion and Fitness for Habitation for buildings that have met the necessary construction standards. This initiative ensures that every new development is thoroughly inspected and meets all safety protocols before being inhabited. Oki reiterated that the LASBCA's mission is to protect lives and property by identifying and removing non-conforming, illegal, and distressed buildings across the state.

“We continue to work diligently to safeguard our communities and make sure that all buildings adhere to the highest standards of construction,” Oki explained. “The state is committed to sustainable development and ensuring that every project, regardless of location, meets the rigorous requirements set by the government."

The success of the joint inspection reflects the ongoing commitment to modernizing Lagos while maintaining safety and sustainability. LASBCA remains dedicated to collaborating with both military and civilian stakeholders to ensure the city’s growth while protecting its residents.

As the city embarks on this urban renewal journey, the collaboration between state and federal bodies, as well as military institutions, continues to play a crucial role in Lagos’s overall development strategy.
