Access to specialized cancer treatment in Northern California has expanded with completion of a new regional medical facility in Redding. The Sierra Pacific Regional Cancer Center provides a centralized location for oncology services that previously required patients to visit multiple facilities across the region.
Layton Construction completed the 43,800-square-foot design-build project in partnership with Cuningham. The facility is located on an 11-acre campus and serves the regional healthcare network associated with Dignity Health and CommonSpirit.
The new facility brings several cancer-related services together under one roof, reducing the need for patients to travel between separate locations for treatment and diagnostic appointments.
Major components include a linear accelerator for radiation treatment, PET-CT imaging capabilities, a retail pharmacy and education facilities. The combination of treatment, imaging and supporting services is designed to provide a more centralized setting for cancer care.
The project broke ground in fall 2024. Layton Construction served as the design-build contractor, with Cuningham providing architectural services and additional design consultants and trade partners participating in delivery.
The project is located in Shasta County, where cancer represents one of the leading causes of death. State and county data cited for the project indicate that the area has cancer incidence and mortality rates above California averages.
For healthcare owners, the project demonstrates how regional specialty-care facilities can consolidate clinical functions within a purpose-built facility. Centralizing imaging, radiation treatment, pharmacy and educational functions can also affect space planning, equipment coordination and MEP requirements during design and construction.
The completion of the Sierra Pacific Regional Cancer Center adds specialized oncology capacity to the Redding area while bringing multiple treatment and diagnostic functions into a single facility.
