Affordable and workforce housing developments can expand residential capacity while creating new opportunities for contractors and trade partners. LeChase Construction Services is serving as general contractor for the Perry & Main project in Port Jefferson, New York, following an Aug. 27 groundbreaking.
The Perry & Main project is being developed by Conifer Realty and will provide 53 residential units in Port Jefferson.
In addition to the housing units, the development will include a residential parking garage, lobby, mail room, fitness room and laundry facilities. Commercial space is also planned for the first floor.
LeChase Vice President Paul Cundiff and members of the project team attended the groundbreaking with Conifer Realty on Aug. 27.
LeChase is managing construction as general contractor through the Conifer-LeChase joint venture. The partnership brings development and construction responsibilities together for the housing project.
The combination of residential units, parking infrastructure, resident amenities and ground-floor commercial space gives the project a mixed-use component within its housing program.
The Perry & Main project adds 53 affordable and workforce housing units to the Port Jefferson market while generating construction activity across residential, parking and commercial components.
For developers and contractors, projects combining housing with supporting amenities and commercial uses require coordination across multiple building functions. The project also demonstrates the role of joint ventures in delivering housing developments through integrated development and construction capabilities.
