Mammoth Solar Secures $1.2M Grant for Starke County Roads

Mammoth Solar, working in partnership with the Starke County Highway Department and the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC), has secured a $1.2 million infrastructure grant to fund major road improvements in Starke County. The grant, part of an incentive package first offered by the IEDC in 2022 to support Mammoth Solar’s investment in northwest Indiana, is aimed at repairing and upgrading local roadways affected in part by the ongoing construction of the large-scale solar project.

The funding builds upon direct road repair payments Mammoth Solar has already made to the county during its construction period. These earlier contributions helped address immediate wear and tear caused by heavy equipment and construction traffic. The new grant will allow the county to go beyond basic repairs, restoring roads to a condition superior to what existed before the start of the project—fulfilling a commitment Mammoth Solar made early in its development process.
“We’re proud to work closely with the IEDC to bring this funding home to Starke County,” said Kevin Parzyck, senior vice president of development for Doral Renewables. “Our goal has always been to be more than a developer. We want to be a true partner. By improving local infrastructure, we’re helping create a safer and more efficient transportation system for residents and farmers and once again prove that promises that were made years ago are kept.”

The $1.2 million will be accessed incrementally as eligible projects are approved and carried out. The Starke County Highway Department will manage the work in coordination with ongoing solar development to ensure that improvements meet both immediate needs—such as repairing damage from heavy machinery—and long-term transportation goals for the community.
“This grant is a huge win for our county. These funds will allow us to not only address wear and tear from heavy equipment and construction traffic but also make meaningful improvements that will serve residents for years to come,” said Starke County Highway Superintendent Rachel Kinney. “We’re grateful to Mammoth Solar and the IEDC for their commitment to supporting our infrastructure and our future.”
Beyond road upgrades, the investment underscores how renewable energy projects can generate lasting benefits for rural communities—enhancing infrastructure, boosting local economies, and building trust through follow-through on promises. The improvements will support farmers, commuters, and businesses alike, creating safer and more reliable travel routes across the county.
Mammoth Solar’s engagement with Starke County reflects a growing trend in the renewable energy sector, where large-scale projects are increasingly designed to deliver not just clean energy, but also tangible infrastructure and economic gains for their host communities.
