A dramatic rescue unfolded in Pomona after a 40-year-old man fell into a deep hole at a construction site, prompting a large-scale emergency response from the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The man, reportedly weighing around 500 pounds, plunged approximately 15 feet into a narrow, 4-foot-wide gap around 1 p.m. Authorities said he was not affiliated with the construction site, and the circumstances surrounding how he ended up there remain unclear.
Emergency crews quickly mobilized, with around 40 firefighters responding to the scene. Specialized urban search and rescue teams carried out a trench rescue operation that lasted at least two hours.
According to officials, rescuers secured the man using a harness system connected to a hoist, which was then attached to a crane-equipped tow truck. The technical nature of the confined-space rescue required careful coordination to safely extract him.
“A lot of resources were used on that call,” said Keith Navarre, a public information officer with the Los Angeles Fire Department. “Any time there is a confined space, it’s difficult.”
In addition to ground crews, a helicopter was deployed to transport a hospital emergency response team directly to the site, ensuring immediate medical care once the man was freed.
Footage from the scene showed the man conscious and communicating with rescuers as he was lifted out of the hole with his arms raised.
After the rescue, he was transported under advanced life support to Pomona Valley Medical Center. Officials have not released details بشأن his current condition.
