The timing of campus recruiting is becoming an important consideration for mechanical contractors planning their 2027 workforce needs. With students returning to campuses and beginning searches for internships and post-graduation positions, MCAA is directing member employers to its GreatFutures Job Board as a recruiting channel.
The GreatFutures Job Board is designed specifically for internships and entry-level opportunities in mechanical contracting and is available at no cost to MCAA members. Employers can create listings through the MCAA Career Development section after signing in with their MCAA credentials.
Each posting remains active for one month. Employers receive a notification as a listing approaches expiration and can either close the position or duplicate the posting for another month. Students can review openings and submit their contact information and resumes, after which employers receive email notifications to continue their own application and interview processes.
The timing also aligns with the MCAA GreatFutures Forum, scheduled for Sept. 24-26. Positions posted during the current recruiting period will remain available throughout the event, while students who do not obtain an internship at the forum can use the job board to identify opportunities with participating member employers that are not attending.
MCAA also provides resources intended to help employers structure internship programs and prepare new hires for mechanical contracting work. Its Communications Guide for Student Chapters includes material covering workplace communication, mechanical and plumbing terminology, organizational interactions and communication practices.
The association's Internship Guide includes sample timelines and recommended practices, while its Hot Sauce Guide helps employers match internship assignments to students' existing knowledge and experience. MCAA also offers a Mechanical Education Basics Guide covering resources intended to help new employees become familiar with industry terminology and practices.
The student chapter network extends across colleges and universities in the United States and Canada. The listed institutions include Purdue University, Virginia Tech, Washington State University, University of Maryland, University of Washington, Oregon State University and Milwaukee School of Engineering, among others.
For mechanical contractors, a national recruiting channel can broaden access beyond markets where a contractor maintains a local student chapter relationship. MCAA states that students using the GreatFutures Job Board may be interested in relocating for internships or full-time employment, allowing employers to reach candidates across the student chapter network.
The initiative gives mechanical contractors a structured way to begin 2027 recruiting while also providing tools for managing internship programs and transitioning students into entry-level roles. For construction owners and contractors, the effort underscores the importance of establishing talent pipelines early as firms plan future project staffing and craft workforce needs.
