Developing capable field leadership remains an important workforce priority for mechanical contractors as project teams manage schedules, customer relationships, jobsite communication and financial performance. The Mechanical Contractors Association of America will hold its 2026 Field Leaders Conference Sept. 16-18 in Portland, Oregon, providing training focused on the responsibilities of field personnel.
The conference is supported and co-hosted by the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors Association of Oregon. Registration is open, while the associated hotel block has a Sept. 1 cutoff.
The three-day program is intended for field leaders at different stages of their careers. Training will address professional responsibilities, performance goals, customer relationships and the connection between field decisions and company financial results.
Participants are expected to receive practical tools for jobsite management, including approaches for handling important jobsite conversations and developing action plans that can be applied after returning to their companies.
The program also provides an opportunity for attendees to exchange information with other jobsite leaders and build professional networks within the mechanical contracting industry.
Financial assistance is available for eligible UA/MCAA foreman administrators through the United Association International Training Fund. Qualified participants who attend one of the 2026 MCAA Field Leaders Conferences can receive grants of up to $5,500.
Eligibility is limited to UA members who have completed the UA Education and Training Department's Foreman Certification Course 2012 and have responsibilities related to administering the UA Foreman Certification Examination at a local union training center.
The grant program adds a funding option for qualifying contractors and field personnel seeking leadership development without placing the full training cost on the employer.
Field supervisors and foremen directly influence jobsite coordination, workforce performance, customer communication and project execution. Training programs focused on these responsibilities can give mechanical contractors another avenue for developing experienced craft workers into stronger field leaders.
For contractors evaluating workforce development investments, the Portland conference combines leadership education with industry networking and, for eligible UA/MCAA participants, potential financial assistance.
