Access to qualified craft workers remains an important consideration for mechanical and plumbing contractors managing project pipelines, making labor recruitment and workforce development activities relevant to project planning. MCAA is encouraging its members to participate in United Association organizing blitzes that connect contractors and local associations with workers in markets where organizing activity is taking place.
The organizing events are intended to help the UA build its craft workforce in response to demand for skilled mechanical and plumbing personnel. Participants may engage with workers at jobsites, supply houses, offices and other locations where nonunion mechanical and plumbing employees are present.
The final UA organizing blitz scheduled for 2026 will take place Oct. 4-9 in Des Moines, Iowa. Contractor participation requires registration through the UA.

For participating contractors, the events provide direct interaction with workers and an opportunity to explain employment conditions and career opportunities within their organizations. Contractors can also gain exposure to potential future talent through those interactions.
Local association executives participating in the blitzes can gain greater familiarity with UA organizing operations while developing closer working relationships with contractors and labor representatives. That coordination can help local associations support contractor participation in organizing activities.
The initiative comes as mechanical contractors continue to balance project staffing requirements with the need to develop sustainable craft labor pipelines. For contractors planning work across multiple markets, participation in workforce and labor initiatives can provide another channel for identifying skilled personnel and understanding available labor resources.
For construction owners and developers, the availability of qualified mechanical and plumbing workers is directly relevant to project execution, particularly on work requiring specialized building systems. The scheduled organizing events provide contractors with additional opportunities to engage with the skilled workforce supporting those scopes.
