McCarthy Building Companies has officially commenced construction on the expansive UC Davis Medical Center project in Sacramento, California. This ambitious endeavor, carrying a price tag of US$3.7 billion, will see the addition of a towering 14-story medical facility and a five-story pavilion, collectively spanning an impressive 910,000 square feet. Once completed, the facility will boast over 300 private patient rooms.
SmithGroup, the Michigan-based design firm behind the project, envisions a facility that seamlessly integrates innovative medical planning, cutting-edge building technologies, and patient-centric design. "The tower synthesizes innovative medical planning, state-of-the-art building technologies and thoughtful patient and staff-centred design to meet the healthcare needs of the future," said Chee Keong Lin, vice president and health studio leader at SmithGroup.
The project's scope extends beyond the medical facility itself. It will incorporate two helicopter landing decks to facilitate rapid patient transportation and accommodate complex procedure rooms equipped with the latest medical technology.
McCarthy has committed to achieving LEED Gold certification for the project, a testament to its dedication to sustainability. The building's design incorporates a range of eco-friendly features, including energy-efficient systems, enhanced indoor air quality, water conservation measures, and rainwater management strategies.
This massive undertaking is expected to be completed by 2030. It represents a significant investment in healthcare infrastructure for the region, promising to elevate the standard of patient care and contribute to the overall well-being of the community.
