Senior leadership expertise in heavy construction and mission-critical development is moving to McCarthy Building Companies as the contractor adds Cathy Orquiola to its executive team.

Orquiola has joined McCarthy as regional CEO and will work with regional and national leaders on self-perform operations while contributing her data center experience to the company's mission-critical construction activities. She reports to Chairman and CEO Ray Sedey and joins the executive committee.

Leadership Experience Across Construction Markets

Orquiola brings more than three decades of experience managing construction operations, developing teams and overseeing complex projects.

Before joining McCarthy, she was western regional president and a board member at PCL Construction Services, where she led operations across Arizona, California, Hawaii and Washington. Her previous work included projects delivered through public-private partnerships and design-build approaches.

Her technical background spans several major construction disciplines, including concrete, civil, electrical and steel. That experience will support McCarthy's self-perform organization, which handles selected construction activities directly rather than through outside subcontractors.

Orquiola also has experience in the data center sector, an area that will be relevant to McCarthy's mission-critical construction leadership.

She earned a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Florida Institute of Technology. She is also a member of the Young Presidents' Organization and previously served on the national board of the ACE Mentor Program of America.

McCarthy's National Construction Platform

McCarthy operates across commercial, institutional, industrial and civil utility infrastructure markets. The employee-owned contractor has more than 8,000 salaried employees and craft professionals and operates through 19 U.S. offices.

The leadership appointment comes as McCarthy maintains construction activity across multiple specialized markets, including mission-critical facilities and infrastructure.

Orquiola's role will include coordinating self-perform leadership across the organization and supporting operational knowledge-sharing between regional and national teams.

Why It Matters

Construction companies increasingly rely on experienced operational leaders to coordinate complex project delivery, develop skilled teams and manage specialized construction capabilities.

For owners and developers, Orquiola's background across heavy construction disciplines and data center development adds senior-level expertise to McCarthy's leadership structure. Her responsibility for self-perform operations also places greater emphasis on managing construction capabilities and craft execution within the company's broader delivery platform.
