According to MDOT, a combination of standard mill-and-overlay paving work, bridge replacements, roadway safety improvements, and a capacity project are helping strengthen and modernize the state’s transportation network. The agency said these efforts are part of its broader mission to build a better Mississippi through sustained infrastructure investment.

According to MDOT, the latest update focuses on projects currently underway or recently completed within District 1, which covers a wide swath of the northeast portion of the state. Counties included in the update are Alcorn, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Clay, Itawamba, Lee, Lowndes, Monroe, Oktibbeha, Pontotoc, Prentiss, Tippah, Tishomingo, Union, Webster, and Winston.

The work spans multiple project types aimed at improving both safety and efficiency for motorists. Mill-and-overlay projects are extending the life of existing roadways, while bridge replacements are addressing aging infrastructure and load capacity concerns. Safety improvements are also being implemented to reduce crash risks, and capacity upgrades are designed to better accommodate traffic volumes in growing areas.

MDOT noted that these projects represent continued progress in maintaining and upgrading Mississippi’s transportation system, particularly in rural and regional corridors that play a critical role in commerce, emergency response, and daily travel.

Residents can find additional project details, timelines, and future updates by visiting MDOT’s official website at mdot.ms.gov.

The department encourages motorists to stay alert when traveling through active work zones and to plan accordingly as construction continues across the region.
