Safety oversight remains a critical requirement on military construction projects, where contractors must meet stringent workplace and project-specific requirements. MEB General Contractors' Chris Benton has received an Exceptional Safety Leadership Award from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' CENWS Malmstrom Resident Office for his work on a Montana Air National Guard construction project.
Benton serves as Site Safety and Health Officer for MEB's POL MILCON Montana Air National Guard project, which involves petroleum, oils and lubricants infrastructure.
In the safety role, Benton is responsible for supporting jobsite safety practices and maintaining compliance with applicable requirements throughout project activities. His recognition came from the USACE office overseeing the work.
Benton has spent more than 17 years with MEB and is part of the contractor's Fueling division. His experience with the organization includes responsibilities related to construction activities requiring specialized safety oversight.
The USACE award recognizes safety leadership associated with the Montana project and Benton’s responsibilities as the site safety official.
Military construction projects can involve specialized facilities, equipment and operating conditions that require structured safety management throughout construction. Site safety and health personnel play a direct role in coordinating these requirements with field operations.
For MEB, the award adds recognition to its safety program within the Fueling division and reflects the safety responsibilities associated with delivering petroleum-related infrastructure for a federal client.
Safety leadership is a central component of construction delivery, particularly on federal and military projects where contractors must coordinate field operations with detailed safety requirements. Benton’s recognition by USACE highlights the role of dedicated site safety personnel in maintaining jobsite standards during specialized infrastructure construction.
