Meridian Waste Reopens Huntsville Transfer Station

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Meridian Waste has resumed operations at its construction and demolition (C&D) materials transfer station in Huntsville, Alabama, after completing extensive repairs and facility upgrades following a fire that damaged the site late last year.

The facility, operated by the Meridian Waste Alabama business unit, was temporarily closed after the November 2024 fire, which forced the company to reroute commercial haulers and contractors to other service locations. Now fully restored and redesigned, the facility is open once again as of Monday, June 23, with operating hours from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Central Time, Monday through Friday.

According to the company, the site has been “fully rebuilt and reconfigured to provide a safer and more efficient operational environment for commercial haulers and contractors.” The upgrades aim to streamline traffic flow, improve customer service, and enhance safety conditions for workers and clients alike.

“Reopening the Huntsville transfer station reflects our ongoing commitment to delivering safe, reliable and environmentally responsible waste management services,” said Charlie Robertson, area president for Meridian Waste.
“The enhancements made to the facility directly address traffic safety, operational flow and customer service.”

Meridian Waste Alabama has also updated the list of acceptable materials at the site, which now includes:

  • Concrete and brick
  • Untreated wood
  • Metals
  • Asphalt paving materials
  • Plaster and drywall
  • Plumbing fixtures
  • Roofing materials
  • Non-asbestos insulation

The transfer station, however, will not accept:

  • Household waste
  • Hazardous waste
  • Yard waste

The reopening of the Huntsville facility comes at a time when C&D waste management capacity is increasingly in demand, especially in fast-growing metro areas like North Alabama. The site serves as a vital regional hub for sorting, transferring, and diverting recyclable construction materials, helping reduce landfill pressure while supporting environmentally sound disposal practices.

With a focus on health and safety, the rebuilt station is expected to improve efficiency for commercial haulers, contractors, and recycling partners, while reinforcing Meridian’s broader mission of sustainable infrastructure and environmental stewardship across its Southern U.S. operations.
