LANSING, Mich. — As part of FOX47’s “Happening Today” update, two major developments are taking place in Lansing — one focused on transportation progress and the other on community justice.
After months of construction, Michigan Avenue between Pennsylvania Ave. and Howard St. officially reopened to the public this morning. The long-anticipated project included a major redesign, reducing the roadway from five lanes to four in an effort to improve safety and traffic flow.
Your neighborhood reporter, Asya Lawrence, is live this morning for the grand reopening, covering reactions from commuters, residents, and local businesses who have been navigating detours throughout the construction period.
The redesign is expected to support smoother traffic, better pedestrian access, and improved visibility for turning lanes — all part of the city’s broader infrastructure modernization efforts.
Meanwhile, across town, Cooley Law School students, under the supervision of licensed attorneys, are helping neighbors with an Expungement Fair today.
The goal of the event is to assist eligible residents in having certain arrests and convictions removed from their public criminal records, opening the door to better employment, housing, and educational opportunities.
There will be limited walk-in appointments available from noon to 4 p.m. at the Cooley Law School lobby.
Organizers say the fair is especially impactful for individuals who have long carried minor or outdated offenses on their records but were unaware that they qualified for expungement under Michigan’s updated Clean Slate laws.
A few showers are possible early this morning, but conditions remain mostly cloudy. Temperatures are slightly warmer with highs in the mid to upper 60s and breezy southerly winds increasing to 5-15 mph, gusting to 20 mph at times.
