Community partnerships are becoming an increasingly visible part of construction companies’ local engagement strategies, with contractors using industry events to support nonprofit organizations and strengthen relationships across their markets. Miller Electric Company’s Nashville team raised $10,000 for the Cumberland River Compact through its annual charity cornhole tournament.
The event brought together approximately 130 participants, including Miller Electric employees, clients, vendors, subcontractors and other industry partners. The fundraiser supported the Nashville-based nonprofit’s efforts to improve water quality, reduce pollution and restore habitats throughout the Cumberland River watershed.
Miller Electric’s annual tournament is structured as a fundraising event in which the winning team selects the beneficiary from a group of local nonprofit organizations. This year, the Cumberland River Compact was selected to receive the proceeds.
The organization works on projects and programs focused on clean water, watershed protection and environmental stewardship in Middle Tennessee. Its work includes initiatives involving waterways, stormwater, education and community participation.
The fundraiser also provided an opportunity for participants from different parts of Nashville’s construction and electrical contracting community to connect outside active project sites.
The event included 52 competing teams and was completed over approximately three hours. A raffle was held alongside the tournament, adding another fundraising component to the event.
Among the event sponsors were Opifex-Synergy Equipment Rentals and Graybar. The tournament’s winning team, Opifex-Synergy Equipment Rentals, also served as a $1,000 event sponsor, while Graybar contributed $2,000 as the top sponsor.
Miller Electric said the annual event is intended to support different community organizations while creating opportunities for employees and industry partners to participate in a shared cause.
Construction companies increasingly operate as long-term participants in the communities where they build and maintain infrastructure. Local charitable programs can complement workforce initiatives, industry partnerships and environmental stewardship efforts while strengthening relationships among contractors, suppliers and customers.
For electrical contractors, these relationships can be particularly relevant in markets where project teams regularly work with the same network of subcontractors, distributors and construction partners.
The Cumberland River Compact's work also connects with construction-related environmental priorities, including water-quality protection and responsible management of development impacts. Its professional education programs provide resources for engineers, developers, stormwater managers and other water-industry professionals.
