Mississippi Construction Site Raid Nets Undocumented Workers

Caroline Raffetto

Seven undocumented workers were taken into custody at a construction site in Long Beach, Mississippi, as part of a broader federal initiative targeting undocumented immigrants across the country.

According to FBI Jackson, the operation was carried out Thursday in coordination with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Local news outlet WLOX first reported the arrests, which took place at an active construction site on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

The arrests reflect a continuation of federal immigration enforcement efforts under President Donald Trump’s administration, which has consistently prioritized reducing the number of undocumented immigrants living and working in the U.S.

This recent enforcement action follows a similar operation earlier in the month, when 48 individuals suspected of being undocumented were detained while traveling through Harrison County. In another operation in March, 25 people were arrested in Rankin County with assistance from local law enforcement, as federal agents pursued individuals allegedly lacking documentation to prove legal U.S. residency.

While federal authorities have not released the names or nationalities of the seven individuals detained in Long Beach, such raids have sparked debate in the region and across the country. Supporters of the enforcement efforts argue they are necessary to uphold the rule of law, while critics contend that these operations disproportionately target vulnerable populations and can create fear within immigrant communities.

The construction industry has increasingly drawn attention from immigration officials, as it remains one of the top sectors employing undocumented labor. Employers in the industry are often caught in a difficult position—balancing workforce needs in a labor-short market with compliance risks posed by immigration enforcement.

As of now, federal authorities have not disclosed whether the construction company employing the individuals at the Long Beach site will face any penalties or investigations.

The situation remains under review by federal immigration authorities
