Construction Owners Editorial Team

MMR Group has launched a Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) partnership with LSU student-athletes, creating the MMR All-Academic Team to recognize academic achievement alongside athletic performance. The initiative also connects the electrical and industrial construction contractor’s workforce-development efforts with the next generation of potential skilled-trades professionals.

Highlights

  • MMR Group launched an NIL partnership with LSU student-athletes on Aug. 27, 2026.
  • The MMR All-Academic Team recognizes LSU football players for achievements in athletics and academics.
  • The program includes 34 student-athletes.
  • MMR plans to connect the initiative with its broader workforce-development efforts.
  • The company operates MMR University, a Craft Training Center and registered apprenticeship programs.

NIL Partnership Expands Workforce Development Focus

The Baton Rouge-based contractor said the partnership is intended to recognize the work student-athletes undertake beyond competition, including academic achievement, discipline, teamwork and continued development.

MMR President and CEO James “Pepper” B. Rutland is a former LSU football student-athlete, giving the partnership a direct connection to the university and its athletic community. The company said the initiative reflects values that also apply to careers in construction and the skilled trades.

The MMR All-Academic Team includes 34 LSU football student-athletes, who will be featured during the campaign. The program provides the company with another avenue to engage students and highlight career opportunities outside traditional four-year career paths.

Construction Industry Builds New Talent Pipelines

MMR’s initiative comes as contractors and specialty construction firms continue to seek new ways to attract and develop skilled workers. Electrical construction, instrumentation and power-related projects require trained craft professionals, engineers and technicians, increasing the importance of long-term workforce strategies.

MMR supports those efforts through MMR University, its Craft Training Center and registered apprenticeship programs. The company says these programs are designed to create pathways into skilled-trades careers and develop the next generation of construction professionals.

For construction employers, partnerships that connect companies with students can provide an additional channel for introducing younger workers to career opportunities in the trades. MMR’s LSU initiative combines student-athlete engagement with a broader workforce-development strategy, potentially helping strengthen awareness of construction careers among students and future professionals.

The partnership also illustrates how construction companies are expanding workforce outreach beyond traditional recruiting, using education, community relationships and institutional partnerships to build longer-term talent pipelines.
