Construction companies across the United States continue expanding workforce engagement and community investment initiatives as firms place greater emphasis on employee-driven charitable programs and industry partnerships. Mortenson’s participation in the 2026 Bike MS: MS 150 Minnesota event reflects how contractors are using long-term community involvement efforts to support health-related causes while strengthening workforce culture and external partnerships.

Mortenson announced that Team Mortenson raised $215,000 during this year’s fundraising campaign tied to the annual cycling event benefiting the National MS Society.

The total included approximately $190,000 raised through team fundraising efforts and an additional $25,000 sponsorship contribution.

Long-Term Community Investment

More than 60 riders and supporters participated in the 2026 effort, including Mortenson employees, family members, trade partners, customers and community supporters.

The contractor stated that Team Mortenson has participated in the Bike MS program for 17 consecutive years. During that period, the organization has contributed more than $1.2 million to the National MS Society through fundraising and sponsorship support.

Funds generated through the initiative support multiple sclerosis research, patient services and advocacy programs.

Project participants included both experienced cyclists and first-time riders, while additional contributors supported the campaign through fundraising, volunteer efforts and event coordination.

Workforce Engagement and Industry Participation

Mortenson indicated that employee participation in the program is often connected to personal experiences involving multiple sclerosis affecting employees, relatives or friends.

The fundraising initiative also serves as a workforce engagement activity that encourages participation from a broad range of employees and industry partners regardless of cycling experience or fundraising role.

Construction firms increasingly use volunteer programs, charitable campaigns and employee-led outreach efforts as part of broader workforce retention and organizational culture strategies.

Industry contractors have expanded involvement in health initiatives, local nonprofit partnerships and regional fundraising events in recent years as companies compete for workforce recruitment and employee engagement advantages.

What This Means For Construction Owners

For construction owners, contractors and industry employers, long-running charitable initiatives such as Mortenson’s Bike MS participation demonstrate how community engagement programs can strengthen relationships among employees, trade partners and customers while supporting broader social impact goals.

The effort also highlights the growing role of employee-driven outreach programs within the construction sector as firms continue investing in workforce culture, retention and community partnerships beyond project delivery activities.
