The transaction brings together two family-founded construction firms with long-standing Florida roots and aligned operational philosophies. Moss, which is privately held and headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, said the acquisition strengthens its regional workforce, enhances local market expertise, and increases its ability to deliver complex projects across Tampa Bay and surrounding growth markets.

Ellison Construction has established a strong reputation in the region through its work on commercial, mixed-use, and placemaking developments. As part of the agreement, Ellison Construction President Cory Ellison and his team will join Moss and be fully integrated into the company’s mid-Florida operations.

While Ellison Construction will become part of Moss, the broader Ellison Companies platform will continue operating independently. Ellison Development will remain a separate entity led by CEO Casey Ellison, and Ellison Advisors will also continue under its existing leadership structure.

The acquisition deepens Moss’ footprint in one of Florida’s most competitive construction markets, where sustained population growth, infrastructure investment, and redevelopment initiatives are driving continued demand for construction services. By integrating Ellison Construction’s regional experience and leadership, Moss aims to strengthen its ability to deliver large-scale and technically complex projects while maintaining strong local relationships.

Ellison Construction has been a prominent builder in Tampa Bay for years, known for projects that blend commercial development with community-focused design. The companies cited cultural alignment and shared values as central factors behind the transaction, allowing for a smoother integration of teams and operations.

Under the new structure, Moss and Ellison Development will formalize a strategic construction relationship that supports future collaboration on development projects. This approach enables Ellison leadership to focus more heavily on development and investment initiatives, including ARK Ellison, a recently launched investment fund created in partnership with ARK Invest. That platform is tied to redevelopment ambitions such as the Historic Gas Plant site.

Several high-profile projects remain active or planned across the region, including The Central in St. Petersburg, the Heights Redevelopment in Tampa Heights, and The Fletcher District, a mixed-use development connected to the University of South Florida.

Moss continues to operate nationally across a wide range of sectors, including residential, education, hospitality, mixed-use, solar, and sports facilities. Its Florida operations have grown steadily over the past decade, with Tampa Bay and Central Florida emerging as key markets.

The Ellison acquisition reflects a broader trend within Florida’s construction industry, where firms are scaling operations through strategic acquisitions to meet sustained growth while preserving local leadership and market knowledge.
