The 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks has prompted North America’s Building Trades to recognize the construction and skilled-trades workers who participated in recovery and rebuilding operations following the attacks.
In a Sept. 11 statement, NABTU President Sean McGarvey honored those who died in the attacks and the Building Trades members who worked alongside first responders and recovery personnel in the aftermath.
Thousands of Building Trades members responded in the days and months following the attacks, contributing to recovery operations at Ground Zero, the Pentagon and communities affected by the attacks.
Their work included helping recover victims, clear damaged areas and support the initial stages of rebuilding. NABTU also recognized members who died during the response and those who continue to experience physical and emotional consequences from their service.
The organization described the response as an enduring part of the Building Trades' history and highlighted the role of skilled workers in the recovery process.
Twenty-five years after the attacks, NABTU's commemoration focused on remembering those who lost their lives and recognizing workers who contributed to recovery efforts.
The anniversary also underscores the role of construction and skilled-trades professionals in responding to large-scale disasters and supporting communities during extended recovery and rebuilding periods.
The Sept. 11 anniversary provides an opportunity for the construction industry to recognize the workers who contributed to one of the nation's largest recovery efforts. Their participation demonstrated the importance of skilled labor, coordination and workforce readiness during complex emergency and rebuilding operations.
