The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) Dakota Prairies Chapter #394, in collaboration with Sentry, is set to host "Construction Rising," an exciting event aimed at empowering women in the construction industry. The event, scheduled for May 15th in Watertown, SD, is designed for women aged 18 and older, offering hands-on learning experiences and opportunities for networking and personal growth.

Lana Gardner, Vice President of NAWIC Dakota Prairies Chapter #394, Project Manager at Sentry, and co-owner of Gardner Construction Services, shared her personal journey in the construction field, which is one of the driving forces behind the event.

"We want to inspire more women to consider construction careers and give them the tools to succeed," said Gardner.

One of the main attractions of the event is a chance to operate a National NBT-60 crane with a 128-foot main boom and a 45-foot jib, allowing participants to experience a mock certification course.

Kristen Vostad, Business Development Specialist at Sentry, emphasized her company’s commitment to advancing women in the industry:

“We recognize the immense value women bring to the construction field, and we’re proud to support them in building their skills,” said Vostad.

Additionally, the event will offer a tour of Sentry’s manufacturing facility and office space, as well as opportunities for socializing with refreshments, a photo booth, and other interactive activities.

Lana Gardner also highlighted her involvement with NAWIC:

“The group has been instrumental in connecting women across the industry and providing a supportive environment for growth,” Gardner explained.
