Nevada contractors, trade partners and residents are being asked to help support young builders this holiday season as the Nevada State Contractors Board (NSCB) launches its second annual “Tools for Schools” Holiday Drive. The effort will supply construction tools and equipment to high school and college programs throughout Northern and Southern Nevada.

The 2025 drive will benefit programs at Western Nevada College, ACE High School, Southern Nevada Trades High School, East Career Technical Academy, Southeast Career Technical Academy and Shop Class Foundation, Inc. According to NSCB Executive Officer David Behar, the initiative continues to expand thanks to community support. “Investing in our future workforce is one of the strongest commitments we can make to the construction industry,” Behar said. He added that the drive “continues to provide students hands-on access to equipment that inspires learning, builds confidence, and nurtures career readiness. We are grateful for everyone contributing to the 2025 campaign.”

Las Vegas–based general contractor Nigro Construction will serve as an additional drop-off location and is participating as a partner in the campaign. “We’re proud to support the Nevada State Contractors Board and be part of this year’s Tools for Schools Holiday Drive,” said Cory Frank, Vice President at Nigro Construction. “Any chance we have to invest in the next generation of skilled trades is important to us. These students are the future of our industry, and we’re grateful to play even a small part in helping them get the tools and resources they need to succeed.”

The demand for construction workers in Nevada continues to surge as growth in commercial and residential projects outpaces the availability of trained workers. Initiatives like the Tools for Schools Drive aim to address this shortage early by building interest and skill development before students graduate. Many schools lack full tool inventories due to budget constraints, leaving aspiring trades students without exposure to essential equipment.

The drive accepts new or gently used tools ranging from hand tools like hammers, utility knives, tape measures and speed squares to higher-value items such as nail guns, industrial staplers, miter saws, Diablo blades, routers and power tools. The variety allows schools to stock workshops that mirror real-world jobsite environments and better prepare students for apprenticeship programs and entry-level jobs.

The donation drive will run from December 1 to December 31, with items being collected Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. (closed Christmas Eve). Donations can be dropped off at:

  • Nigro Construction
  • NSCB Las Vegas Office
  • NSCB Reno Office

For larger donations, NSCB encourages individuals or companies to coordinate directly with the board.

In addition to its education programs, NSCB enforces licensing standards statewide to ensure that contractors meet professional and safety requirements. The organization emphasizes that strengthening the pipeline of future workers is essential to safeguarding Nevada’s growing construction industry and the communities it helps build.
