More than 890 new homes are planned across Long Island through six housing developments receiving more than $32 million in state funding, as New York seeks to expand housing supply and improve affordability across Nassau and Suffolk counties.
Announced by Gov. Kathy Hochul on Oct. 27, 2026, the awards are being provided through the Long Island Investment Fund. The six projects are expected to create 899 housing units, including 482 affordable homes, and represent more than $529 million in combined investment.
The funding supports a range of housing opportunities, including affordable and supportive housing, homeownership and developments near transit and downtown centres.
Empire State Development said the funding is intended to help turn underused properties into productive developments, support necessary infrastructure and attract private investment to communities across Long Island.
The initiative also aims to broaden housing options for residents at different income levels and stages of life. State officials linked increased housing availability with workforce needs, local economic activity and the continued development of downtown areas.
New York State Homes and Community Renewal is also involved in the state's broader effort to increase housing supply and improve affordability.
The awards direct public funding toward projects expected to generate substantial additional investment in residential development. With more than $529 million in total project investment, the six developments represent a significant housing pipeline for Nassau and Suffolk counties.
The planned mix of affordable, supportive and transit-oriented housing could help expand residential options near established centres and transportation connections. The announcement did not identify individual project locations, construction schedules or unit allocations for each development.
