Drivers across Allen, Auglaize, Hardin, Putnam, and Van Wert counties can expect several ongoing and new road construction projects as the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) and local municipalities work to complete major improvements before winter weather arrives.

The U.S. 30 westbound rest area will temporarily close on Thursday, Oct. 30, for approximately four days due to scheduled facility maintenance. ODOT expects to reopen the rest area on Monday, Nov. 3.
Work continues east of Lima on State Route 81, between Thayer Road and Fisher Road, where construction began on Aug. 4. The project includes both a new roundabout at Thayer Road and a bridge replacement over Patterson Ditch between McClure and Fisher Roads.
The roundabout officially opened on Oct. 9, but the bridge replacement will continue into early November.
“The SR 81 closure between McClure Road and Fisher Road over Patterson Ditch for a bridge replacement is expected to continue into early November,” officials said.
Drivers should follow the detour via I-75, U.S. 30, SR 235, and back to SR 81.
In the village of Harrod, Main Street between First and Sixth Streets has been closed since Aug. 20 for a 120-day full reconstruction. Crews are also resurfacing portions of Napoleon Road through October.
Access to homes and businesses in the work zone will remain open.
Detour: Alger Road → Lawrence Road → Clum Road.
Between Linden Avenue and Kishler Drive, SR 29 will experience intermittent single-lane traffic through October, as crews install sidewalks and upgraded traffic signals. Work runs 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., managed by flaggers.
Overnight lane closures continue on I-75 between Middle Pike and Hengstler Road from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m., part of a long-term bridge project.
In addition, a lane shift remains in place, with northbound traffic in the left lane crossing to a contraflow lane on the southbound side. Vehicles in that lane will not have access to Exit 113 (SR 67).
This configuration, which began in March, allows two lanes of traffic to remain open in both directions.
“This shift is weather dependent,” ODOT noted.
SR 67 remains closed in Waynesfield between North Anthony Wayne Trail and Westminster Street through November 2025 for culvert replacement.
Reconstruction on Detroit Street between Ohio Street and Carrol Street in Kenton began in January and continues through Fall 2025. The project includes new curbs, gutters, and sewer lines.
Truck detour routes remain in effect along U.S. 33, SR 117, SR 235, SR 309, SR 701, and SR 81 depending on destination.
A separate project along U.S. 68 between Eliza Street and Carrol Street in Kenton began June 9 and will continue through December 8. The work includes full-depth reconstruction, curb ramps, and sidewalk installation.
“The intermediate course of pavement is complete, and the surface course is likely to begin the week of Oct. 27,” ODOT reported.
“Work continues on driveways and sidewalks, with completion expected the week of Oct. 27.”
Detour: U.S. 30 → SR 235 → SR 117 → SR 273 → U.S. 68.
Crack-sealing work between Kenton and the Hancock County line will restrict traffic to alternating one-way operation under flagger control.
