Northwest Playground hosted the inaugural Mickey Corso Scholarship Fun-Raiser Golf Tournament in partnership with the Washington Recreation & Park Association (WRPA).

Golf Tournament Supports Professional Development

Held at Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton on Sept. 21, the event brought together professionals from parks and recreation, landscape architecture, education and related industries.

The tournament included 18 holes of golf along with games, raffle activities and networking opportunities. Registration fees, sponsorships, donations and other fundraising activities generated $5,360 for the Mickey Corso Scholarship Fund.

The scholarship is administered by WRPA and provides financial support for professionals, students and emerging leaders pursuing continuing education, certifications, graduate coursework and leadership programs.

Industry Partners Contribute to Fundraising Effort

Northwest Playground organized the event as a tribute to Mickey Corso and his contributions to the parks and recreation community. The fundraising effort was supported by sponsors, volunteers, participating organizations and golf courses that contributed foursomes and raffle prizes.

Sponsors included AstroTurf, Bruce Dees & Associates, RRM Design Group, West Coast Goalkeeping, ForeverLawn, Johnston Architects, First Citizens Bank, MxM Landscape Architecture, AHBL and SCJ Alliance.

Several Washington golf courses also contributed to the event through donated foursomes and prizes, adding to the funds generated for the scholarship program.

Why It Matters

The event connects construction, recreation and design professionals with workforce development in the public-space sector. Funding continuing education and leadership programs can help professionals build skills relevant to parks, recreation facilities and community-focused projects.

The inaugural tournament also establishes a fundraising platform that Northwest Playground and its industry partners can continue to build on in future years.
