NRP Group Breaks Ground on 377-Unit Project in Matthews, NC

The NRP Group, a national multifamily housing developer, has announced both the financial close and the start of construction for a major multifamily community in Matthews, North Carolina. The development, spanning 15 acres at 11330 Brigman Road, will deliver 377 housing units, with 7.5% of those set aside for families earning 80% or less of the area median income (AMI).

This new community aims to meet growing housing demand in a highly competitive market while offering modern amenities and outdoor spaces. In total, the project includes three residential buildings ranging from four to five stories, alongside a four-level parking garage. Planned amenities include a resort-style pool, fitness and business centers, a dog park, coworking spaces, and a retail café.

“The Matthews [development] represents a rare opportunity to deliver high-quality housing in one of the most supply-constrained submarkets in the Charlotte region,” said NRP Group vice president Jason Mochizuki. “Matthews has long been known for its high barriers to entry and thoughtful approach to growth, which makes this ground-breaking all the more meaningful. We’re especially excited about the site’s direct connection to the Sportsplex and nearby trail system, which really speaks to the outdoor lifestyle many residents are looking for.”

The location, adjacent to the Matthews Sportsplex, provides residents with direct access to a four-mile bike and walking trail leading to downtown Matthews, as well as proximity to major Charlotte employment hubs like South End, Uptown, SouthPark, and Ballantyne—all reachable within 20 minutes.

A key element of the development is its focus on blending with the surrounding community. The design draws inspiration from Matthews’ architectural style to complement the town’s character. The project will also provide 35,000 square feet of green space and a 7,500-square-foot public terrace, creating communal spaces for both residents and visitors. Public art installations are planned near the clubhouse entrance, further enhancing the sense of place.

NRP Group expects the project to reach completion by November 2026. Once finished, it is positioned to offer much-needed housing options for both working professionals and families in an area where supply has struggled to meet demand.
