Improving transportation capacity remains a priority as population growth and freight activity increase across the Southeast. Parsons has been selected to lead the engineering and design work for the Interstate 526 Long Point Road Interchange Improvements project, a major design-build effort commissioned by the South Carolina Department of Transportation.
Parsons will serve as the lead designer as part of the Ames Construction design-build team on the approximately $227 million project.
The interchange improvements will modernize the connection between Interstate 526 and Long Point Road in the Mount Pleasant area, one of the Charleston region's busiest transportation corridors.
Engineering services will focus on improving roadway operations, increasing safety and reducing congestion while supporting more reliable travel for passenger vehicles and commercial traffic.
Parsons' portion of the work is valued at approximately 10% of the overall design-build contract.
The project is also intended to improve access to the Wando Welch Terminal, enhancing freight transportation to one of the East Coast's major port facilities.
By improving interchange performance and traffic operations, the project is expected to strengthen regional connectivity for businesses, residents and freight carriers while supporting continued economic growth in the Charleston metropolitan area.
The award expands Parsons' transportation portfolio delivered through collaborative design-build partnerships with public agencies and construction contractors.
