As food insecurity reaches record highs across America, PCL Construction Enterprises, Inc. is more than doubling its annual holiday giving to food banks—announcing a $175,000 contribution to help families struggling to afford meals. The company’s expanded donation comes at a critical time: According to the USDA, more than 47 million Americans are living in food-insecure households, including over 13 million children, and the rising cost of groceries is pushing families further to the brink.

Research from the Urban Institute shows the average monthly cost of feeding a family of four now exceeds $1,000, making basic nutrition a growing financial challenge. PCL says its increased donation reflects today’s urgent demand for support.

“Supporting the communities where we live and work is central to who we are at PCL,” said Deron Brown, president and chief operating officer of U.S. Operations. “This year, we expanded our efforts in response to growing need, and we remain committed to being part of the solution. By increasing our giving across the U.S., we're reinforcing our long-standing partnerships with local food banks and delivering on our purpose to help build stronger, more resilient communities.”

This annual program has become a nationwide tradition for PCL teams, each selecting local partners to maximize community impact. Across the country, employees are volunteering, hosting food drives, and working alongside major hunger-relief organizations.

Examples of PCL’s Expanded Impact

  • Minneapolis, MN: Working with Second Harvest Heartland and Shiloh Cares Food Shelf, PCL volunteers helped sort donations and provide Thanksgiving meals. Second Harvest estimates that every $1 provides three meals, and PCL’s $10,000 gift alone will supply tens of thousands of meals for Minnesota families.
  • Denver, CO: Supporting Food Bank of the Rockies, employees participated in the “Serving Up Hope” campaign. PCL’s $10,000 contribution helps support the food bank’s mission to provide more than 145,000 meals daily across Colorado and Wyoming.
  • Florida Regions (Orlando, Jacksonville, Tampa): Employees joined Feeding Northeast Florida, Feeding Tampa Bay, Second Harvest Central Florida, and Feeding South Florida. Orlando volunteers helped produce 40,000 meals, Jacksonville delivered 1,200 food boxes, and Tampa team members led a community food drive.

Rick Goldman, senior vice president of PCL’s Florida region, praised the widespread teamwork and lasting community impact:

“Our partnership with food banks across Florida is just one example of PCL’s commitment to building stronger communities across the country. From Maui to Minneapolis and Tampa to Seattle, our employees are making a meaningful impact through their generosity. These efforts, echoed across the nation, translate into tens of thousands of meals for neighbors in need - a powerful reminder of what we can achieve together.”

PCL supports more than two dozen food banks from Hawaii to Texas to the Pacific Northwest (full list included in original report). Collectively, these partnerships help sustain meal distribution programs throughout holiday seasons and beyond.

PCL Construction, one of North America’s leading builders with over $8 billion in annual revenue, is entirely employee-owned. That ownership model, the company says, fuels community investment and long-term partnerships with nonprofit organizations. In addition to supporting food banks, PCL continues investing in infrastructure and community-building projects across the U.S., Canada, and beyond.

The company plans to expand philanthropic initiatives as economic pressures deepen nationwide, reinforcing the belief that hunger relief is foundational to community resilience.
