PCL Construction Ranks No. 5 on Fortune’s 2025 Best Workplaces in Construction List

Caroline Raffetto

DENVER, Colo. - PCL Construction has once again earned recognition as one of the nation’s best places to work, landing the No. 5 spot on the 2025 Fortune Best Workplaces in Construction™ List, compiled by Fortune and Great Place To Work®. This marks the third time the company has received the honor, further reinforcing its reputation for excellence in workplace culture, employee empowerment, and commitment to innovation.

The annual list recognizes construction companies that go above and beyond in creating safe, inclusive, and empowering environments for their employees. Rankings are determined through extensive survey data — this year analyzing feedback from nearly 54,000 employees across the construction industry.

“Being named to the Best Workplaces in Construction list again reflects the strength of our employee-owned culture and the values we live every day,” said Deron Brown, PCL’s president and chief operating officer for U.S. operations. “At PCL, our people are empowered to shape their careers, contribute to meaningful projects, and foster a workplace where everyone feels respected and included. This recognition is a direct result of their dedication and the inclusive environment we continue to build together.”

The Great Place To Work® survey — the largest of its kind — gathers over 1.3 million employee responses representing more than 8.4 million U.S. workers. Honorees are chosen based on their ability to deliver exceptional employee experiences across job roles, demographics, and regions.

According to Michael C. Bush, CEO of Great Place To Work, “Congratulations to the Best Workplaces in Construction. In every industry, our research shows that investing in people drives productivity and higher revenues. When trust levels are high in an organization, people don’t fear AI — they embrace it.”

The recognition highlights PCL’s ongoing efforts to maintain a culture where trust, transparency, and growth are at the forefront. The company’s employee ownership model has long been a defining factor in its success, fostering accountability, shared purpose, and long-term commitment. Every employee is a stakeholder, aligning the company’s success with individual achievement.

Earlier this year, Fortune and Great Place To Work also named PCL Construction to the Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For® 2025, underscoring its consistent excellence across industries and geographies.

A Culture of Empowerment and Innovation

PCL’s leadership attributes its strong workplace culture to an emphasis on collaboration, safety, and professional growth. The company’s ongoing investments in training, mentorship, and sustainability initiatives are helping redefine what it means to work in modern construction.

As one of North America’s largest contracting organizations, PCL completes more than $8 billion USD in projects annually across the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, and Australia. Its portfolio spans buildings, civil infrastructure, heavy industrial, and solar markets — each driven by an unwavering focus on quality and community impact.

“Together, we’re not just building structures — we’re building careers, relationships, and a shared future,” said Brown. “Our success stems from the passion of our people, who bring their best every day to the communities we serve.”

Recognition Beyond Rankings

For employees, being part of PCL means contributing to projects that shape skylines, support sustainability, and enhance community resilience. The company’s inclusive approach ensures that all voices are heard — from field engineers to project executives — and that feedback directly informs company decisions.

PCL’s employee engagement programs, leadership pathways, and emphasis on mental health and safety have also played key roles in making it one of the industry’s top employers. Its teams across North America regularly collaborate to share innovations that improve efficiency, quality, and worker well-being.
