A $44 million transportation project in northwest Arizona has added a new Interstate 40 connection to support regional growth and improve access to commercial and industrial areas in Kingman.
Pulice, a FlatironDragados company, completed the Flying Fortress Traffic Interchange in partnership with the Arizona Department of Transportation, the City of Kingman and other community partners. Construction began in 2024 and finished on schedule in 2026.
The interchange is located at I-40 milepost 57 and connects the interstate with Flying Fortress Parkway and Airway Avenue. The improved route provides access to Kingman Airport and nearby employment centres, supporting future industrial development and additional transportation capacity.
The project included construction of the new interchange and sections of four-lane Flying Fortress Parkway, previously known as Rancho Santa Fe Parkway. Additional work included bicycle lanes, sidewalks, curbs and gutters, and a raised median.
The improvements are intended to accommodate increasing traffic demand while easing pressure on the existing East Kingman interchange. The expanded road network also provides connections between the interstate, airport and surrounding commercial areas.
The project opening was marked by a community celebration featuring a flyover by a B-17 Flying Fortress, recognising Kingman Airport's history as a World War II-era military training facility.
The Flying Fortress interchange illustrates how targeted highway investments can improve freight access, connect employment centres and prepare growing communities for future development.
For transportation agencies and infrastructure contractors, the project also highlights the importance of coordinating highway construction with local road networks and regional development plans. Completing the work on schedule provides Kingman with additional access capacity as demand for industrial and commercial connections grows.
