Reno, NV — Labor organizers and community advocates are coming together for a May Day rally on Thursday, May 1, at the Bruce R. Thompson Federal Building in Reno. The event, scheduled from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., is being hosted by the Northern Nevada Central Labor Council in partnership with Indivisible Northern Nevada and grassroots organization 50501 NV.
Organizers say the rally will serve as a show of solidarity in defense of unions, immigrant rights, and the institutions that support them — all of which they claim are under attack from former President Donald Trump and his political allies.

According to the announcement, the demonstration is intended to spotlight “President Donald Trump's attacks on unions and immigrants, as well as attacks on the institutions and individuals coming to their aid.”
May Day, also known as International Workers’ Day, is a long-recognized celebration of labor and working-class struggles around the world. The timing of the rally underscores the ongoing push by Nevada labor leaders and advocates to connect local issues with broader national movements for worker and immigrant justice.
Indivisible Northern Nevada, which has helped organize several high-profile demonstrations in downtown Reno — particularly at the popular Believe Plaza — is taking a lead role in mobilizing community members for this year’s event.
Featured speakers will include Ross Kinson, President of the Northern Nevada Central Labor Council, and Rob Benner, Secretary Treasurer of the Building & Construction Trades Council of Northern Nevada, both of whom are expected to address the importance of defending labor rights amid rising political polarization.
The event is open to the public, and all community members are encouraged to attend. Rally-goers can RSVP or learn more by visiting Indivisible Northern Nevada’s website.
While the rally is expected to be peaceful, local authorities are monitoring the event to ensure public safety and a smooth flow of traffic in the area.
In a political climate where union power and immigrant protections are often contested, organizers say this year’s May Day rally represents both a celebration and a call to action.
