Richland Intersection Closing for 3 Weeks for Roundabout Work

Richland, WA – Drivers in the Badger Mountain South community should prepare for traffic changes this August as a key intersection undergoes major construction.
The City of Richland announced that the intersection of Dallas Road and Trowbridge Boulevard will be closed for about three weeks to allow crews to build a new roundabout. The closure will begin at approximately 7 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 12, and is expected to last until early September.

The work is part of the Dallas Road Roundabouts Project, a developer-driven initiative designed to improve traffic flow, enhance safety, and prepare the growing community for increased transportation needs.
Trowbridge Boulevard will be closed at its intersection with Dallas Road to “accommodate essential construction work,” the city said in its release.
Detours and Traffic Changes
To help drivers navigate the closure, the city has established detour routes:
- East and westbound traffic on Trowbridge Boulevard will be rerouted through Gateway Avenue.
- Traffic near the Ava Way intersection will experience lane shifts.
“Motorists are advised to follow all posted detour signs, drive with caution and plan for potential delays when traveling in the area,” the city noted. A 25-mph work zone speed limit will be in effect for the duration of the closure.
About the Dallas Road Roundabouts Project

Construction on the Dallas Road Roundabouts Project began in 2024 and is scheduled for completion in late spring 2026, according to the City of Richland’s Transparency Center.
The project includes:
- Two new roundabouts (at Trowbridge Boulevard and Ava Way)
- Sidewalks and accessible pedestrian crossings in all directions
- Street widening for better traffic capacity
- Installation of city utilities, including water, sewer, and stormwater infrastructure
- Extension of electrical, fiber optic, and natural gas services
- New paving, street signs, and pavement markings
City officials say the improvements will not only enhance safety but also accommodate the area’s rapid residential and commercial development. Roundabouts are increasingly being used in Washington to reduce collisions, improve traffic flow, and provide safer pedestrian crossings.
