PADUCAH, Ky. (WSIL) — Drivers across western Kentucky should prepare for extended travel delays and detours this month as construction and maintenance continue throughout Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 1.
KYTC says several bridge replacement projects, realignment improvements, mobile equipment caravans, and road closures are underway to improve long-term safety and pavement conditions across Ballard, Carlisle, Crittenden, Fulton, Graves, Hickman, Marshall, McCracken, and Trigg Counties.

Many of the work zones include width restrictions, reduced speed limits, and temporary access changes — making attention to new signage critical for motorists in both rural and high-traffic corridors.
A temporary diversion near MP 1 on U.S. 60 and planned closures along KY 473/Gage Road are part of the U.S. 60 realignment project near Kevil, expected to last until November 7, 2026. New speed limits in these areas are set at 35–45 mph.
One-lane traffic continues near MP 1.7 along U.S. 51 north of Arlington. Crews are building a new, wider, and stronger bridge with restricted access to Railroad Street. Work is expected to wrap up by April 30, 2026.
KY 1203 remains closed for a Gray Creek bridge replacement, with completion targeted by late December.
Construction crews are currently pouring the deck for the brand-new Crooked Creek Bridge on KY 387/Dam 50 Road. Once complete, access to KY 91 will reopen for local residents impacted along a 3-mile stretch of the roadway. Nearby, KY 2123 is also closed for Caney Fork bridge replacement, expected to finish mid-November.
Multiple closures continue due to slides and structurally unsafe bridges, including:
A mobile striping convoy is also repainting lanes along Interstate 69, reducing speeds to 55 mph in work zones through the end of November.
Three bridge projects — including along KY 1485, KY 1748, and KY 339 — are pushing toward end-of-year openings, pending guardrail shipments. KY 1382 is undergoing bridge rehabilitation with similar completion timing.
The Interstate 69 micro-paving striping caravan continues into northern Graves County.
KY 780 and KY 123 are closed for bridge replacement projects scheduled to wrap up around late November.
Major work extends into mid-2026 on KY 402 at the Clarks River Bridge, a key link for commuters and regional commercial travel. KY 2595 also remains closed for bridge construction to be completed by mid-November.
Drivers should expect:
KY 787 also remains closed for a bridge replacement south of U.S. 68.

KY 124 is shut down between KY 139 and Line Street as the state realigns the intersection — including:
Completion is anticipated by year-end.
KYTC District 1 continues to modernize critical infrastructure for:
Safer rural bridge crossings
Smoother freight movement through river-connected counties
Improved resilience against flooding and slope failures
Better statewide connectivity for communities and industry
Western Kentucky’s aging bridges — many 50+ years old — are being replaced with wider, heavier-load-rated structures that support agriculture and commercial trucking.
