Growing communities continue to drive demand for new healthcare infrastructure, prompting owners and healthcare providers to expand emergency care capacity closer to residential areas. In Central Florida, construction has progressed on a new emergency department that will increase access to acute care services in Auburndale as regional population growth accelerates.
Construction teams recently completed installation of the final structural steel beam for the new AdventHealth Auburndale emergency department, marking the project's topping out milestone.
Located at 1036 U.S. Highway 92 West in Auburndale, Florida, the standalone emergency department will encompass more than 13,000 square feet. The facility is being developed to improve emergency healthcare access for residents across Auburndale and surrounding Polk County communities.
The building will feature 12 private patient examination rooms, advanced diagnostic imaging capabilities including X-ray, CT and ultrasound equipment, and a full-service laboratory to support rapid testing. Planned clinical services also include pediatric emergency care, pharmacy support and respiratory therapy.
HuntonBrady is providing architectural design services for the project, while Robins & Morton is managing construction under its ongoing healthcare portfolio.
Upon completion, the facility is expected to support the creation of more than 35 permanent jobs. The emergency department will operate as a department of AdventHealth Heart of Florida and is scheduled to begin serving patients early next year.
The project aligns with continued population growth across Polk County, where demand for healthcare facilities has increased alongside residential development. Population projections from the University of Florida indicate the county's population could reach approximately 1 million residents by 2030, increasing the need for expanded emergency medical services and supporting infrastructure.
