Birmingham-based Robins & Morton has officially broken ground on a $104 million expansion and renovation project at Methodist Hospital | Stone Oak in San Antonio, Texas, marking another significant step in the city’s growing healthcare infrastructure. The large-scale upgrade is expected to be completed by late 2026 and will both expand patient capacity and modernize critical medical spaces.

Robins & Morton is serving as the general contractor, while architectural firm ESa is leading the design work. The project scope includes two new floors and more than 83,000 square feet of additional space, providing room for expanded hospital laboratory facilities, a larger central supply area, and enhanced parking capacity.
The expansion will allow the hospital to add 54 new patient beds, raising its total capacity from 245 to 299 beds. This increase is intended to meet the growing healthcare demands of San Antonio’s rapidly expanding population, while also improving patient comfort and reducing wait times.
“This project is not just about bricks and mortar—it’s about creating more space to care for more people,” said a Robins & Morton project representative. “With the additional capacity and modernized facilities, Methodist Hospital | Stone Oak will be better equipped to serve patients for decades to come.”
The renovation component will address older parts of the facility, updating infrastructure and optimizing layouts for both patient care and staff efficiency. Improvements will also include state-of-the-art medical technology installations, upgraded waiting areas, and enhanced patient rooms designed for comfort, accessibility, and infection control.

San Antonio’s healthcare system has been experiencing sustained growth, driven by both population increases and a rising demand for specialized medical services. Methodist Hospital | Stone Oak’s investment in expansion is seen as a proactive step to keep pace with regional needs and provide more comprehensive care options.
Hospital leadership emphasized that the project will help maintain their commitment to high-quality healthcare delivery. “This expansion is a reflection of our mission to meet the needs of the community we serve,” said a Methodist Hospital spokesperson. “By increasing our capacity and upgrading our facilities, we can better support patients and their families during their most critical moments.”
Once complete, the hospital will have additional intensive care capacity, expanded surgical support areas, and greater flexibility to adapt to future healthcare challenges, including public health emergencies. The construction project is also expected to generate significant local economic activity, creating jobs for skilled trades and suppliers throughout its duration.
With completion set for late 2026, Methodist Hospital | Stone Oak’s new facilities are expected to not only increase patient capacity but also improve operational efficiency, enhance patient experiences, and strengthen the overall healthcare network in the region.
