SIBA Awards Grants to 40 Southern Illinois Schools for Trades Programs

The Southern Illinois Builders Association (SIBA) has awarded $500 grants to 40 high schools across the region, including Centralia and Mt. Vernon high schools, as part of its long-standing initiative to strengthen vocational education and promote careers in the construction industry.

“SIBA continues to seek opportunities to support and collaborate with high schools that offer vocational and technical education related to the construction industry,” the association said in a statement.
Each selected school will receive a $500 grant to purchase classroom tools, materials, or other equipment aimed at enhancing hands-on training in the skilled trades. These resources are intended to provide students with practical, real-world experience that aligns with workforce needs in construction and related fields.

“The goal is to prepare students for in-demand jobs in the skilled trades,” SIBA said, adding that the grants reflect the organization’s commitment to career and technical education.
Schools receiving grants are also encouraged to document their purchases and classroom activities. “Schools are encouraged to share photos of how the funds are used and to request stickers provided by SIBA to label any items purchased,” the announcement said.
The list of 2025 grant recipients includes a diverse range of schools from both urban and rural communities, such as Anna-Jonesboro Community High School, Effingham High School, O’Fallon Township High School, Richland County High School, and Vienna High School, among many others.
SIBA has also invited schools to report their course offerings and request classroom visits from construction industry professionals, which can be arranged by contacting Donna Richter at ceo@siba-agc.org.
By investing in technical education, SIBA aims to address the workforce gap in construction and inspire the next generation of skilled labor. The initiative reinforces the association’s role as a vital advocate for the region’s construction industry and educational development.
