Healthcare owners are continuing to develop outpatient facilities that combine clinical space with supporting infrastructure and parking capacity. In Durham, North Carolina, Skanska is expanding its role in a new medical campus through an additional $68 million construction contract with UNC Health.
The project includes construction of a six-story medical office building totaling approximately 191,000 square feet. An 890-space parking deck is also part of the development program.
Skanska's responsibilities cover site development, infrastructure, early equipment work and construction of the building's core and shell.
The project is being developed as the beginning of a new outpatient medical campus. The program is also intended to establish updated design and construction standards for UNC Health's outpatient facilities.
Several building components will be prefabricated as part of the construction approach. The scope includes unitized curtainwall systems, prefabricated exterior wall cladding and offsite-produced exam room pods.
The use of prefabricated elements places greater emphasis on coordination between offsite manufacturing and site installation. For healthcare owners, the approach can also support standardized construction methods across outpatient facilities when incorporated into broader facility programs.
Construction began in June 2026. Completion is expected in April 2028.
