Expanding convention and hospitality infrastructure remains a priority for cities seeking to attract larger events and strengthen local economic activity. Skanska has begun construction on a new convention center hotel in downtown Cincinnati, advancing a major component of the city's long-term redevelopment strategy.

Hotel Project Supports Convention District Expansion

The Cincinnati Downtown Marriott Hotel will rise 21 stories and encompass approximately 660,000 square feet. The development will feature 700 guest rooms, about 62,000 square feet of meeting space, multiple ballrooms, a full-service restaurant, ground-floor retail and approximately 17,000 square feet of rooftop terrace space.

A new skybridge will link the hotel directly to the First Financial Convention Center, improving access between the hotel, convention facilities and nearby parking infrastructure.

The project is being developed by Portman Holdings in partnership with 3CDC and designed by Cooper Carry with Moody Nolan serving as the local design partner.

Construction Activities Underway

Construction has commenced with demolition and early site preparation. Upcoming work will include deep foundations, excavation and structural steel installation as the building progresses.

Skanska expects the hotel to be completed in late 2028.

The development represents a key investment within Cincinnati's $828 million Convention District Revitalization Plan, which is intended to strengthen the city's convention capacity and support continued downtown redevelopment.

Why It Matters

Large convention hotels play an important role in supporting meeting and event markets while driving demand for commercial construction and related infrastructure improvements. For construction owners, developers and contractors, the Cincinnati Downtown Marriott Hotel illustrates continued investment in mixed-use hospitality projects tied to broader urban revitalization initiatives.
