The transfer of a utility-scale solar project with an established development and commercial foundation can reduce development risk as renewable energy owners move projects toward construction. Sol Systems has acquired the 200 MWac Lumberton Solar Project in Hardin County, Texas, adding another large-scale generation asset to its portfolio.
Sol Systems acquired the Lumberton project from DESRI following development, permitting and commercialization work by DESRI. The project is backed by a long-term power purchase agreement, providing an established commercial framework as it advances toward construction and eventual operation.
The 200 MWac facility will add utility-scale solar generation capacity in Hardin County. Sol Systems said the acquisition is its second project acquisition of 2026 and forms part of its strategy to expand its independent power producer platform through acquisitions and projects developed directly.
The transaction also builds on an existing relationship between Sol Systems and DESRI, which develops, acquires, invests in, owns and operates contracted renewable energy assets in the United States.
With development and permitting work already completed by DESRI, the acquisition positions Sol Systems to continue advancing the project toward construction. The established power purchase agreement is also expected to support the project's transition from development into its construction and operating phases.
For construction stakeholders, the project represents potential demand across utility-scale solar construction activities, including site work, civil construction, equipment installation, electrical systems and related infrastructure. The project is also expected to contribute construction employment and longer-term tax revenues in Hardin County.
The Lumberton project is expected to provide economic activity in Hardin County through construction jobs, tax revenue and local investment. Sol Systems plans to work with local stakeholders during the project's operating life to identify opportunities tied to community priorities.
