Utility-scale solar construction continued to dominate renewable energy development in 2025, with engineering, procurement and construction firms accounting for most of the nation's largest installations. The newly released 2026 Top Solar Contractors rankings provide a snapshot of the companies delivering the highest volumes of U.S. solar capacity as utilities and developers expand renewable generation portfolios.
The annual rankings measure contractors by the total direct current (DC) solar capacity they helped install across the United States during 2025.
Quanta Services ranked first with more than 6.1 gigawatts of installed capacity, followed by Moss and McCarthy Building Companies. Primoris Renewable Energy and SOLV Energy rounded out the top five contractors.
Among traditional construction firms, Mortenson ranked seventh with approximately 1.66 GW installed, Sundt Construction placed 20th with about 660 MW, PCL Construction ranked 31st with 349 MW and Barton Malow ranked 32nd with nearly 304 MW of installed capacity.
The rankings include engineering, procurement and construction firms, developers, electrical subcontractors, installation subcontractors and solar installers serving utility, commercial, community solar and residential markets.
Utility-scale projects represented the largest share of installed capacity among the highest-ranked firms, underscoring continued demand for large renewable energy developments supported by experienced EPC contractors.
For construction owners, developers and energy investors, the annual rankings offer a benchmark of contractors with demonstrated experience delivering large-scale solar infrastructure. As renewable energy development continues to expand, contractor experience, installation volume and project delivery capability remain important considerations during procurement and project planning
