A major renovation of Spectrum Center — home to the Charlotte Hornets — is officially finished, marking one of the most significant venue modernization efforts in the Carolinas. The joint venture team of Turner Construction Company and D.A. Everett Construction Group partnered closely with Hornets Sports & Entertainment (HSE), the City of Charlotte, and the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority to deliver the multi-year transformation.

The project ensured the arena reopened in time for a busy fall entertainment schedule, launching with high-profile concerts followed by the 2025–26 NBA season home opener.
“The transformed Spectrum Center is a testament to what’s possible when passion, partnership and purpose come together,” said HSE President of Business Operations Shelly Cayette-Weston. “Together with our project partners, we’ve delivered a new world-class arena that will elevate the experience of every fan that walks through its doors. Thank you to the more than 3,000 construction and trade workers for their skills, talent and ability that brought this project to life. As we celebrate Spectrum Center’s milestone 20th anniversary, we also look toward the next 20 years. Spectrum Center will continue to reflect the energy, diversity and spirit of the Carolinas – and be a place where community thrives and memories are made.”
The renovated Spectrum Center strengthens accessibility, wayfinding, and technological upgrades designed to reduce wait times and improve crowd flow. Food and beverage offerings now include more regional flavors, with new social gathering zones across the concourse. Updates also reflect a focus on inclusive design, featuring new family and sensory-support spaces.

The project took place primarily between NBA seasons — compressing significant work into tight windows while maintaining safety and quality priorities.
“This project was all about schedule,” said Drew Kelleher, Vice President and General Manager, Turner Construction Company. “It’s an extraordinary amount of work to complete between the end of the Hornets’ season in April and the start of the next in October. The entire team—our JV partner, trade partners, and craftworkers—worked tirelessly across multiple shifts to deliver every phase safely, on time, and ready for fans to return.”
The renovation involved more than 3,000 skilled workers and multiple partners including:
With key developments rising nearby — including mixed-use entertainment districts and growing transit infrastructure — the renovated Spectrum Center positions Charlotte to attract larger events, NBA showcases, and more concerts that fuel tourism and local revenue.
