New Rail Connection to Serve Fort Worth's Medical District

Expanding access to health care, employment and education destinations is a central objective of a new commuter rail project in Fort Worth, Texas. Fort Worth Transit Partners, a joint venture of Stacy Witbeck and Sundt Construction, has marked the groundbreaking of the 2.1-mile TEXRail Extension in partnership with Trinity Metro and regional stakeholders.

The extension will connect Fort Worth T&P Station with a new station in the Near Southside and Medical District, expanding the existing TEXRail network. Trinity Metro recorded more than 1 million passenger rides on the rail service during fiscal year 2026.

Station Infrastructure and Rail Systems

The construction program includes a center-platform passenger station with a park-and-ride facility and crew room. Additional work covers railway signaling and communications systems, retaining walls, pedestrian access connections, lighting and signage.

The new station will provide transit access to major health care institutions, including Baylor Scott & White All Saints Medical Center and Cook Children's, along with nearby medical facilities.

The extension will also connect the district with downtown Fort Worth, North Tarrant County, Grapevine and Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. Planned connections with bus services, pedestrian routes and bicycle access are intended to support transfers across different transportation modes.

Joint Venture's Project Delivery Role

Trinity Metro selected Fort Worth Transit Partners as construction manager at risk in 2023. Since the selection, Stacy Witbeck and Sundt Construction have participated in preconstruction activities, including design reviews and preliminary cost estimating.

The joint venture will lead construction following its involvement in the project's planning and cost development. Stacy Witbeck and Sundt have previously partnered on transit infrastructure projects over a period of more than 20 years.

Why It Matters

The TEXRail Extension adds a new passenger rail connection to one of Fort Worth's major health care and employment districts. For construction stakeholders, the project represents continued investment in regional transit infrastructure, including passenger facilities, rail systems and multimodal connections.

The development also expands the reach of an existing commuter rail service that recorded more than 1 million rides in fiscal year 2026, linking additional destinations to the broader North Texas transportation network.
