Structures Inc. Completes $7.2M I-70 Bridge Rehabilitation Project Ahead of Schedule

A $7.2 million bridge rehabilitation project along Interstate 70 in Arapahoe County has reached substantial completion ahead of its planned schedule, with Structures Inc. completing major construction activities in August 2026. Final seeding and punch-list work will continue along the corridor in late September.

The project covered approximately two miles of I-70 between Peoria and Deer Trail, southeast of Byers, from mileposts 323.1 to 325.3. The work was designed to repair four structures and extend their service life while maintaining the condition of the interstate corridor.

Bridge Deck and Structural Repairs

Construction included repairs to the decks of four bridges, along with girder and column repairs. Crews also reconstructed concrete pavement at the bridge approaches to address areas connecting the structures with the roadway.

The project began in September 2025 and was originally scheduled to continue through September 2026. Completing the primary work in August allowed the project team to finish the major construction activities ahead of schedule.

The work was carried out by Structures Inc. under the Colorado Department of Transportation's project program for bridge rehabilitation in Arapahoe County.

I-70 Corridor Maintenance

The rehabilitation addresses structural components that are important to maintaining the condition and service life of the four bridges along this portion of I-70. CDOT said the improvements are intended to support safer driving conditions and provide a smoother roadway through the corridor.

Although major construction is complete, crews will return for final seeding and remaining punch-list items later in September, with the timing planned around weather conditions. The project previously included lane and shoulder closures between mileposts 323.1 and 325.3 while construction was underway.

For owners and contractors involved in transportation infrastructure, the project illustrates the continuing need for rehabilitation work on existing highway structures. Rather than replacing the four structures, the program focused on targeted deck, girder, column and approach repairs intended to extend their useful service life.

The completion also marks the close of a nearly yearlong construction effort on a key interstate route serving central Colorado.
