Sturdy Memorial Opens Cancer & Specialty Care Center in Attleboro

Sturdy Health has officially opened a new cancer and specialty care building on the campus of Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, Massachusetts, a major step in expanding access to advanced healthcare for the region.

The three-story, 60,000-square-foot facility was designed to bring a wide range of specialty services under one roof, making it easier for patients to receive coordinated care in a modern, patient-focused environment. The building features 50 exam rooms and is now home to specialties including cancer treatment, hematology, cardiology, gastroenterology, pulmonology, and surgical services.

Hospital leaders said the project reflects a broader strategy to meet growing demand for specialty care while improving patient experience. “This new building centralizes services that had previously been spread across multiple locations, helping us provide more seamless, integrated care to our patients,” Sturdy Health said in a statement.

One of the key features of the project is a climate-controlled connector bridge that links the new building directly to the main hospital, ensuring easy access for patients, staff, and families regardless of weather conditions.

The building was designed by Seattle-based architecture firm NBBJ, known for its healthcare-focused projects nationwide, while Consigli Construction Co., headquartered in Milford, Massachusetts, served as general contractor.

Hospital officials said the project represents a significant investment in the community’s long-term health needs, particularly in cancer care and specialty services that continue to see rising demand. By consolidating these departments into a single, state-of-the-art building, Sturdy aims to improve efficiency and reduce barriers to care.

“This facility is more than just a building—it represents our commitment to delivering comprehensive specialty care close to home,” the hospital added.

The opening of the cancer and specialty care building follows broader healthcare trends across the U.S., where hospitals are investing in specialized outpatient facilities that combine convenience with advanced treatment capabilities.

With the new space officially open, patients in Attleboro and surrounding communities will no longer need to travel far for specialty care, a benefit that leaders say will improve outcomes and patient satisfaction.
