STV has appointed Donald Del Nero II as vice president and tunnel engineering director to strengthen its national tunneling capabilities as major underground transportation and water projects continue to advance across the United States.

Leadership to Support Underground Infrastructure Projects

Based in New York, Del Nero joins STV with approximately 40 years of experience delivering tunnel and underground infrastructure through design-build, construction manager at-risk and other alternative delivery methods.

His background includes tunnel engineering, geotechnical design, risk management, contract strategy and tunnel boring technologies. Throughout his career, he has contributed to more than 100 miles of tunnel construction and engineering projects.

Del Nero will help expand STV's technical expertise in managing complex underground infrastructure programs while supporting clients through planning, design and project delivery.

Growing Demand for Tunnel Engineering

STV noted that nearly 30 major tunnel projects, representing roughly $50 billion in investment, are currently in planning or construction across the United States. These projects are intended to expand transportation capacity, modernize aging infrastructure and improve system resilience.

The firm's tunneling portfolio includes work on the Hudson River Tunnel, the Howard Street Tunnel Clearance Program in Baltimore and the passenger tunnel connecting Grand Central Terminal with the No. 7 subway line in New York City.

In addition to project experience, Del Nero has authored more than 50 technical publications and recently received the 2025 Microtunneling Achievement Award for Excellence in Engineering.
