Transit Hub Connects Metro Services With LAX

A new transit connection serving Los Angeles International Airport has received international recognition for its architectural design, highlighting the role of passenger infrastructure in regional mobility. The LAX/Metro Transit Center was selected for the 2026 World’s Most Beautiful Passenger Stations distinction by Prix Versailles, an international awards program recognizing architecture, design, sustainability and cultural impact.

STV supported the project through initial planning, conceptual design and coordination among agencies. The work helped integrate the station with the airport’s Consolidated Rental Car facility and the planned automated people mover at the 96th Street location.

Opened in 2025, the transit center serves Metro’s C and K lines, along with Metro and municipal bus services. A direct connection to the airport’s automated people mover is planned to expand access between the regional transit network and airport facilities.

Architectural Design and Sustainability Features

The station incorporates sweeping roof canopies, glass ceilings, natural ventilation and solar energy features. These elements contributed to its selection among seven passenger stations worldwide, with the Los Angeles facility representing the United States.

The recognition program will award additional World Titles to three of the selected stations during a ceremony in Paris on Dec. 10, 2026.

Broader Transportation Investment in Los Angeles

STV’s work on the transit center forms part of a wider portfolio of transportation projects across the Los Angeles region. Other efforts include extensions of Metro’s D Line, the C Line extension to Torrance, the Zero-Emission Bus Program and early planning and procurement support for the LAX Automated People Mover.

For transportation agencies and infrastructure contractors, the project demonstrates how station planning, interagency coordination and integration with existing and planned transit systems can support airport accessibility and regional connectivity. The international recognition also places architectural quality and sustainability among the considerations shaping major passenger transportation facilities.
