Rail and transit agencies are advancing signaling, communications and train control upgrades across North America, increasing demand for specialized systems engineering expertise. STV has strengthened its national rail systems leadership with the appointment of Richard Mascara and Paul Salvatore as vice presidents.
The appointments, announced Sept. 21, add leadership capacity in train control, signaling, communications and systems integration within STV’s national systems practice.
Based in Pittsburgh, Mascara will help advance STV’s national strategy for communications-based train control (CBTC), signaling modernization and systems integration.
Mascara brings more than 30 years of transportation program experience. His background includes CBTC, automated people mover systems, platform screen doors and conventional train control technologies. He has also worked on major transit authority programs involving next-generation CBTC systems and legacy infrastructure modernization.
His responsibilities will include supporting clients as they address rail capacity, safety and operational performance through technology and systems upgrades.
Salvatore, based in Boston, will focus on the growth and delivery of STV’s national rail systems practice.
He brings nearly 30 years of rail and transit systems engineering experience, with expertise spanning signaling, communications, Positive Train Control and systems integration. His career includes leadership roles supporting major transit agencies as well as work with rail technology consultancies and providers.
Together, the appointments strengthen STV’s ability to support rail owners through planning, engineering and implementation of complex systems programs.
STV provides engineering and technical services for railroad and transit systems throughout the U.S. and Canada, including traction power, signaling, communications and maintenance facilities. Its rail systems work includes support for agencies such as Long Island Rail Road, MBTA, Metro-North Railroad, SEPTA, Bay Area Rapid Transit and Sound Transit.
Adding senior systems leaders with specialized train control and signaling experience gives STV additional technical capacity as transit agencies continue investing in modernization, system integration and operational improvements.
