
Flood control investments continue to be a priority for public infrastructure owners as communities strengthen resilience against severe weather events. In Central Texas, completion of a major dam project marks an important milestone in a broader flood mitigation program intended to reduce risk for nearby residents and improve public safety.
Sundt Construction has completed the Upper Brushy Creek Water Control and Improvement District Dam 101 project near Round Rock, north of Austin.
The nearly one-mile-long earthen embankment serves as the first phase of the Lake Creek Flood Mitigation initiative. The structure incorporates a clay core, reaches heights of up to 40 feet and includes an approximately 0.6-mile labyrinth weir spillway designed to improve floodwater management.
The completed dam is expected to reduce flood risk for more than 1,000 residents while improving emergency access during periods of heavy rainfall and flooding.
Sundt self-performed several major construction activities, including approximately 60,000 cubic yards of excavation and 190,000 cubic yards of zoned embankment construction.
Project crews also installed drainage infrastructure, a 60-inch steel pipe, and multiple concrete structures that support the dam's long-term operation and performance.
The project highlights Sundt's experience delivering large-scale water infrastructure and flood control projects across Texas.
